Environmental and Ethical Credentials

Membership: We are members of the National Organisation for Responsible Business (ORB), supporting small businesses to play a vital role in their local communities, contributing to social, environmental, and economic sustainability, and setting an example of ethical and responsible business behaviour in the UK and across the world.

Education and Learning: Founder Lorraine Allman is an Associate Member of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA), has passed the IEMS Sustainability Skills for Managers exam, and is currently studying for the IEMA Foundation Certificate in Environmental Management. She is also an Affiliate Member of the Institution of Environmental Sciences (IES). We collaborate with Earth Warriors to support their unique Climate Change and Sustainability Curriculum for primary schools, helping children and families understand how we can all play our part in taking better care of the planet.

Collaboration: We are currently exploring opportunities for collaboration with the University of East Anglia to support our work in seeking clarity and transparency in the terminology used throughout this space to give our Customers confidence in knowing their purchases are genuinely earth-friendly. We also fully support the Green Claims Code.

Provenance : If we can’t verify how and where a product has been made, it doesn’t make it on to the Marketplace. This includes understanding how products from abroad are shipped e.g. we look for boat rather than air freight, as well as appropriate certifications.

Business Practice Review: We continuously review our practices across every aspect of the business, including our supply chains, to ensure we are not only as eco-friendly as possible, but also that practices are ethical. Our website is hosted on servers in a data centre that is run entirely on electricity from renewable sources. When servers are no longer functional, they are recycled saving over 900 tons of CO2 annually.

Global goals: We fully support all The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) and align our work in particular to:

Purposeful: We want to invest in charitable organisations that look after not just the planet but also its people, which is why we donate 5% of our annual net profits to The Earth Restoration Service through the Work for Good initiative.

We recognise everything detailed here is a continuous learning process, and there is always more for us to understand and learn. We welcome constructive feedback on what we’re doing, and are happy to discuss potential collaborations and/or partnerships.
