Environmental and Ethical Credentials

Membership: We are members of the National Organisation for Responsible Business (ORB), supporting small businesses to play a vital role in their local communities, contributing to social, environmental, and economic sustainability, and setting an example of ethical and responsible business behaviour in the UK and across the world. We are also members of the Federation of Small Business, business members of the Global Plastic Pollution Coalition, approved by the Global Good Market, recognised as Plastic-Free Champions (Silver), and accredited with The Good Shopping Guide as Ethical Innovators and listed in their Top 200 Ethical Businesses List.

Education and Learning: Founder Lorraine Allman is an Associate Member of the Institute of Sustainability and Environmental Professionals (ISEP), and the Institute of Environmental Sciences (IES). She has passed both the IEMA Foundation Certificate in Environmental Management, and IEMA Sustainability Skills for Managers exams. We work hard to keep up to date with scientific research and developments in this area, in particular with bioplastics.

Collaboration: Our membership of the Organisation of Responsible Business, and Plastic Pollution Coalition provides us with many opportunities to collaborate with both businesses and organisations. We also fully support the Green Claims Code.

Provenance: If we can’t verify how and where a product has been made, it doesn’t make it on to the Marketplace. This includes understanding how products from abroad are shipped e.g. we look for boat rather than air freight, as well as appropriate certifications.

Business Practice Review: We continuously review our practices across every aspect of the business, having recently completed a 6-week ESG/Responsible Business Course covering Workplace, Environment, Community, Ethics, and Business Processes to ensure we are not only as environmentally friendly as possible, but also that we operate as a responsible business. Our website is hosted on servers in a data centre that is run entirely on electricity from renewable sources. When servers are no longer functional, they are recycled saving over 900 tons of CO2 annually. The Green Web Foundation confirm we are 'green hosted.'

Global goals: We fully support all The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). Our work in particular aligns with:

Purposeful: We want to invest in charitable organisations that look after not just the planet but also its people, which is why we donate 5% of our annual net profits to Better Planet Education through the Work for Good initiative.

We recognise everything detailed here is a continuous learning process, and there is always more for us to understand and learn. We welcome constructive feedback on what we’re doing, and are happy to discuss potential collaborations and/or partnerships.
